Since the beginning of time people have been brewing beer. Homebrewing was outlawed in the U.S. with Prohibition. After Prohibition was repealed, wine making at home was made legal, however beer brewing at home was not made legal due to a stenographers error. In 1978, President Carter passed a law that allows 100 gallons of homebrew to be made per adult per household (the average is 5 gallons), up to a maximum of 200 gallons of homebrew per household.
